April Ross

April Ross is one of only a few female beach volleyball stars who have won medals in many Olympics. Alix Klineman is the newest Olympian who will be joining her in Tokyo. Ross is determined to earn more than her initial Olympic medal. Since she's 39 years old and has a long way to go, this could be her last shot. Her optimism is that she will be able to win top awards. If we do our highest or do well, I believe we'll win the gold medal Ross stated on NBC Boston. Therefore, I'm hoping to have a little bit of luck also. Ross is born in the year 1982. Costa Mesa California where she lived with her parents as well as a her sister. She was able to participate in numerous activities at Newport Harbor High School. The prep sports she played included indoor volleyball along with basketball as well as track and running. But she stood out in this sport. Her college biography states that she played outside of the hitter, middle blocker and setter during her volleyball career in high school. Her efforts were recognized by her being named 1999 Gatorade's Circle Of Champions National players of the year. The year 2000 was the time she won an Orange County Athlete of the Year award in volleyball. Ross has been working with Klineman from 2017, but Ross's beach game was well-established long before that. She's won big tournaments twice with different partners. One of them is an icon of the volleyball world. In the period 2007-2013 she played with Jennifer Kessy who more recently was Klineman's coach. Together with Kessy, Ross won an Olympic Title in 2009 while competing in the international circuit. At the 2012 Olympic Games, they were awarded a gold medal. They were defeated for the gold medal by the legendary group comprising Misty and Kerri Walsh (Jennings). Ross Jennings took over for May-Treanor as she left the team. The pair won bronze in the Rio Olympics for beach volleyball. After high school and several years prior to hitting the sand professionally, Ross played for the USC Trojans as a collegiate. Her time at the school was one to remember. In 2000, she was named Pac-10 Freshman and NCAA Freshman of the Year. She was also named an All-American. Additionally, she assisted her Trojans get to the Final Four. After her sophomore year she suffered a devastating personal loss, yet managed to earn the honor of being named an All-American. Over her final two years in the program she led the Trojans to the top of the mountain winning three consecutive championships at the national level. For her part she established herself in the history books by winning the Honda Sports Award for 2003-04. This award was given to the most outstanding female volleyball players at colleges across the country. Ross was a student at USC in International Relations. Margie Ross never saw her daughter reach the top in beach volleyball. Ross's mother died of breast cancer when she was a sophomore in USC. She continues to remember her deceased parent close and close. Margie at the beach as well as in everyday life, continues to inspire her.
